19세기 다호메이 왕국의 여전사들(Dahomey Amazons)이 침략자들에 맞서 싸우는 내용의 영화임

시놉시스는 : 다호메이의 여전사들이 "명예를 위배하고 백성들을 노예로 삼고 지금까지 살아왔던 모든 것을 앗아가려고 위협한 적들을 싸우는(fought enemies who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything they have lived for.)" 라는 내용











근데 문제가 되는건 실제 역사에서 다호메이 왕국이 아프리카 사람들을 공격해서 납치한다음 유럽인들에게 노예로 팔아 넘기면서 번성했다는 점... 남녀노소 가리지도 않았다함

As a highly militaristic kingdom constantly organised for warfare, it captured children, women, and men during wars and raids against neighboring societies, and sold them into the Atlantic slave trade in exchange for European goods such as rifles, gunpowder, fabrics, cowrie shells, tobacco, pipes, and alcohol. 영국에서 노예제가 폐지된 이후에도 다호메이 왕국의 왕
은 "The slave trade has been the ruling principle of my people. It is the source of their glory and wealth. Their songs celebrate their victories and the mother lulls the child to sleep with notes of triumph over an enemy reduced to slavery." 라고 주장하며 끝까지 노예 무역 중단을 거부했다고 전해짐


다호메이 아마존들이 프랑스에 대항해 용맹하게 싸운건 맞긴 한데... 노예 팔이로 번성한 나라를 이렇게 미화해도 되는건지 모르겠다.
